6.7 magnitude earthquake hits India

An earthquake has hit India, killing at least five people and injuring hundreds others, AFP reported.
The 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the country’s remote northwest region in the early hours of Monday.
It was reported that the tremor was felt several kilometers away in Myanmar, Bangladesh and Tibet.
India’s military personnel have been assisting in rescue operations.
The country’s National Disaster Management Authority told a news agency that at least five people had been confirmed dead.
Other media reports have so far pegged the death toll at six.
A six storey building is reported to have collapsed.
Power failure in many affected areas had also been reported.
The Guardian reported that rescue workers battled to find construction workers believed to have been buried beneath a building.
Dhaka police also reported that about 40 people had been treated at a hospital in the Bangladeshi capital including a university student who jumped from a fourth floor balcony.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra has urged that all steps be taken to provide any necessary relief to victims.
